Ombre Desk

During the crazy rummage sale weekend we had a few weeks ago, I picked up this hand-made desk.  It is solid as a rock.  It seemed fairly masculine to me and I struggled to come up with an idea for it.

As I searched Google Images and Pinterest, I saw lots of "ombre" dressers...
so I thought I'd try that on this desk.

Before.

After.

The body of the dresser is painted white.
Crisp and clean.

The drawers are painted a dark graphite on the bottom...
then I lightened the color as I went up.

I did quite a bit of heavy distressing because it looked so good!

This is a big daddy.  Heavy too.

29" tall, 54.5" long and 24" deep.

Back To Painting

That's a desk with a hutch and chair.  It has been squished into the corner of my garage for months and today I got back to painting!

Isn't it amazing?

The paint color is duck egg blue and white.  The knobs are antique bronze.  I love the color combination and all the heavy distressing.

Look at that finish...smooth.

Love the dental molding and the details on the legs.

The white just makes it pop.

Chairs are not my favorite thing to paint...but this one was fun.
The heavy distressing on it looks so good.

I'm just giddy over these pieces!

Traditional Beauty

before ~ great, traditional piece of furniture

a whole new look for this dresser

lots of distressing....  it looks so shabby chic

notice the antiqued look

This dresser didn't necessarily need a new look.... but I'm so happy with the results!  I think it has such a great "antique" look!  So much character was added with the unique paint colors & heavy distressing!

I painted the base of the dresser with ASCP's Old White.  The drawers were painted with ASCP's Aubusson Blue.  I really distressed the drawers pretty good & then covered the entire piece with antique gold wax.

If you are looking for a great, unique dresser for a bedroom, foyer area, or living area, this might be the perfect piece!!

Thanks for looking,
Heather

Rummage Sale Weekend 2012

A few weeks ago Bismarck was crazy.
Crazy with rummage sales.

There were signs, cars ands sales on almost every street.

Unfortunately, neither Heather or I were able to get to that many...but we did have some luck.  We will be painting these pieces soon, so let us know if you are interested in anything and we can custom paint it for you.

Nice dresser.  Functions perfectly.

I was noticing the checkerboard pattern on the drawers.
Thinking of a fade of pinks, blues or turquoise with a white body.

Loved this little piece.

This could be used as a bench or coffee table.
There is even storage inside.

This will look 150% better with a coat of paint.

Big. Sturdy. Desk.

I'm thinking of doing an fade on the drawers.
Fade from black to gray?  White body?

This is a nice desk with a hutch and chair.  I'm thinking white for the main body and maybe a color on the drawers and inside of hutch.

The small table on top is for me:)

I bought the base of this table for my Uncle Roger.  He is going to use it for the bottom of an old game table he refinished.

This door was $5.  It is old and perfect.
I put it in the guest room and it is just what that empty wall needed.

Let us know if you see anything you like!

Fun & Functional Small Buffet

Before

Very nice detail on the doors

beautiful, ornate hardware

lots of storage inside

This buffet is adorable!  With lots of storage inside & a nice serving area on the top, this might be perfect for your next get together or the upcoming holiday season!!

I left the top "as is" because it is in great shape & would clean up great if drinks/food were spilled on it.  I painted the body of the piece in ASCP's Old White, distressed it up, & sealed it with a coat of wax.  It turned out great ~ what a transformation.

Please note the dimensions of this small buffet cabinet.  It looks larger on the pictures then it actually is!! :)

Classic Dresser

Before

hardware with a fresh spray of oil rubbed bronze

after

so crisp looking... very classy

perfect amount of distressing!

This dresser is in great shape, good bones & structure, just needing some updating!

The dresser was given 2 coats of ASCP's Pure White, followed by a nice coat of wax.  I distressed the edges to give it a shabby chic look, and I just love how it turned out.

Remember....  dressers don't always need to go into a bedroom... there are so many places in your home to use them for storage or whatever else you can think of!!  I picture a large mirror above with some nice table lamps in an entry area?  The sky is the limit!!

Thanks for looking,
Heather

P.S.  There are a lot of pieces coming in the near future!!
Keep checking back:)

Farm House Chic!

Renae found a few "diamonds in the rough" last week in a farmhouse near Ft. Lincoln....  she dropped this piece off for me & to be honest.... it had seen better days.  I so wish I had the "before" picture ~ it was pretty nasty!  Very dirty, dingy, and the finish was awful.  I first thought ASCP in Pure White, so after disassembling it, I put the 1st coat on.  I realized that Pure White wasn't going to cut it.  I had a little ASCP in Chateau Gray left, so I mixed it with clear glaze & rubbed it on to see what would happen & I actually really love how it looks!!
The cupboard's original hardware was green glass knobs (which were really cool), but 2 were broken & they just didn't seem to fit the look of the piece.  I got out the spray paint & sprayed the hinges oil rubbed bronze.  I had bought the new pulls for myself, but thought they would look great on this cupboard....  & they do!

This piece really is a good reminder of how paint & some hard work can really transform a pretty beat-up piece of furniture!!
