Great Legs

We are so excited to share this piece with you today.  It has such great legs!  Plus the stained top and distressed paint look amazing.

Before

This dresser was in eight pieces when I saved it from the landfill.  The drawer supports were in a box along with a few drawer pieces and the entire backside.  With a little elbow grease, gorilla glue and furniture clamps...it is fully functional.

The finish appears to be in perfect condition, but it truly needed some
attention. I was able to sand, stain and seal the original top, but the rest received at coat of old white and a shade of turquoise blue.
After a little distressing and wax...it is my absolute favorite piece.

Look at those legs?  Who could resist?

Cork Boards

These are so fun...I can see them in a kitchen, home office or laundry room. The frames are gorgeous with at touch of distressing.  They are a nice white with a hint of age added.

Don't they look like they belong in a Pottery Barn or Ballard Design magazine?

For me?

Before

Of course, I was dying to start painting on this buffet and forgot to take the before pictures...so here it is right before I started painting.  This piece was musty, dusty and full of spider webs... so a good washing was needed.  Plus a little Gorilla Glue to repair the vaneer and we were set.

Almost done...heavy distressing was needed to achieve the look I was after.  I needed a little inspiration for that center piece...but couldn't find any.  So, Hobby Lobby to the rescue!  I found a baroque stencil to add a special touch to the center.

For me?  Not sure.

It doesn't fit quite right where I had envisioned it and in my mind I have rearranged my entire house to find the perfect spot for it.  Hmmm...I think this would be a perfect "beverage" station for parties...but it kind of blocks the hallway.  Is that bad?

I love this piece and as I take a second look...I think it might stay.

Thanks for visiting our blog.

Perfect in Provence

Before

My friend, Kristin, had this cupboard in her laundry room and it was originally white.  She painted it this dark blue/green and was not happy with the results...thus requesting the help of Heather and myself.  She sanded the majority of the paint off and sent it our way.

During

We did some more sanding and gave it a coat of primer to
cover the dark color that remained.

After

We gave it a couple coats of my favorite paint color, Provence. Then we distressed it heavily and added some clear and dark wax to age it even more.

Love it.  Can I have it in my laundry room?  Please?

Thanks Kristin!

A Beautiful Hutch

Heather and I painted this hutch "on location" at Not Too Shabby in the Gateway Mall.  Beth, the owner, had asked us to give this hutch a makeover and we decided to do it right at the store.

It is a nice, study piece with great lines and details.  We spent the last two evenings painting and visiting...now it is done and it is beautiful.

A before picture would have been nice, but we jumped in and got started right away...it was very dark and dated.

Love the crackle that came through.

The beadboard gives in a "cottage" feel.

Love it!  Hope you do too...
it is for sale at Not Too Shabby in the Gateway Mall, Bismarck, ND.
This store is FULL of treasures...stop in and take a look.

Black Fox

While we were moving back into our house I was so overwhelmed with the amount of work ahead of us and the inability to finish anything...but I did a few painting projects that I knew I could finish.

I painted Thomas' headboard and footboard in Black Fox by Sherwin Williams. It is kind of a graphite color and I love it next to the Dapper Tan on the walls (Sherwin Williams).

We found some denim bedding, striped drapes and recycled pillows to bring make it more of a "big" boy room...he is almost 10!

Our guest room got a little update with a new duvet and cozy pillows.  I painted the little side table white during my "overwhelmed" moment.

My next project is a some hooks for my laundry room...stay tuned.  Plus, Heather and I are headed to Junk Fest in Carrington on Saturday!
Can't. Wait. For. A. Day. Away.

My New Best Friend

Yes...it's a Lego head!

As many of you know we were evacuated from our home for most of the summer and have been back living in our home for almost a month.  All of our possessions were removed from the house due to fears of our home being flooded and mold reaching the ceiling...but were worked hard and were able to keep the flood waters out.

As the boxes, bins and bags of "stuff" came streaming back into our home...I knew we needed to reduce.  So I have been throwing, donating and reorganizing for weeks.

When it came to organizing our massive amount of Legos...I was at a loss.  So I turned to the internet and did some research...that's where I found my new friend.

Simply pile the Legos in, cover and shake.

It sorts them into large, medium and small trays.

I had painted this shelving unit in Casey's room and bought some clear bins to store all the "sorted" legos.  The boys love it...and it is so easy.

The train table was converted to a lego table and everything is
conveniently located in Casey's room.

Nerf guns and light sabers are tough to store...I bought these round garbage cans and they work perfectly.  Thomas has a couple in his room too.

Casey used to have an air hockey table in his room and it had tons of toys stored on the top and underneath.  When we decided to relocate the Legos to his room we moved the air hockey table out and across the street to the neighbors future game room.

So, I started stashing toy bins all over the place...closets, under beds and in the donate pile.  I knew that this wasn't going to work for them or me...I'm not a "stasher" and if they can't get to the toys easily, they are not going to play with them (or put them away).

Thus, I sacrificed my storage closet...yes the closet that housed framed pictures, home decor, gifts, gift bags, boxes and bows.  It was packed, but it gave me the opportunity to clean it out...thus another loaded suburban headed to Goodwill.

It works perfectly.
