Emporer's Silk!!

Weird title, I know... but let me explain...  Renae & I decided last week to put in an order for more Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  With the holidays around the corner, we thought Emporer's Silk would be a fabulous color of red for some great pieces we have sitting in our garages.  Accent pieces are so fun to do in interesting, bright, bold colors!

This piece turned out amazing... I love it!  I wish I could keep it, but I won't do that b/c I'm sure someone who sees this will fall in love with the bold color choice & the great piece of furniture that it is.

The sky's the limit with this piece...  a bench at the entrance of your home, a bathroom accent piece, a short side table, etc.  It is stamped on the bottom with the words "bench", so obviously it is a bench, but who knows what else this great piece could be used for?

Thanks for stopping by & checking out all of our pieces!

Pumpkin Spice

before ~ dingy & dirty...

after ~ fresh & clean

light distressing on edges

lots of storage space for mittens, magazines, books, etc.

This storage bench was so cute to begin with but needed a little TLC!  The hardest part about re-doing this was getting the hinge off the back.... oh my....  whoever painted it before, did not take off the hinge (or the 30, yes, 30 screws which attached it) & instead, painted over the entire hinge & 30 screws.  It took me over an hour to get the hinge off!!

This bench was already snatched up by my husband's Aunt & she came up with the great color scheme!  She asked for ASCP Old White on the legs & ASCP's Barcelona Orange (muted a little with Old White) on the base.  The legs were coated in a white wax & the base in an antique dark wax.  It is ready for her entry way & is sure to get compliments!!

Thanks, Shelby!!

Rummage Sale Weekend 2012

A few weeks ago Bismarck was crazy.
Crazy with rummage sales.

There were signs, cars ands sales on almost every street.

Unfortunately, neither Heather or I were able to get to that many...but we did have some luck.  We will be painting these pieces soon, so let us know if you are interested in anything and we can custom paint it for you.

Nice dresser.  Functions perfectly.

I was noticing the checkerboard pattern on the drawers.
Thinking of a fade of pinks, blues or turquoise with a white body.

Loved this little piece.

This could be used as a bench or coffee table.
There is even storage inside.

This will look 150% better with a coat of paint.

Big. Sturdy. Desk.

I'm thinking of doing an fade on the drawers.
Fade from black to gray?  White body?

This is a nice desk with a hutch and chair.  I'm thinking white for the main body and maybe a color on the drawers and inside of hutch.

The small table on top is for me:)

I bought the base of this table for my Uncle Roger.  He is going to use it for the bottom of an old game table he refinished.

This door was $5.  It is old and perfect.
I put it in the guest room and it is just what that empty wall needed.

Let us know if you see anything you like!

From Lois

My sister-in-law, Suzie, received this cedar chest from her 91-year old Grandma.  The finish was quite worn and the hinges had pulled away from the wood...but it still had tons of character and was definitely worth fixing up.

I painted it old white, distressed it and added some new hinges.

It will be the perfect spot to store her treasures and extra blankets.  Enjoy.

Thanks for visiting.

Artichokes and Cream

This piece was brought to us by Heather's cousin, Britt.  When we were first getting started with our blog, she helped us learn how to use blogger...we had tried several times to set this us, but failed.  She helped us BIG time.
Thanks again.

It is a cedar lined chest that will be perfect in her home.  I forgot to take a "before" picture...but it was pretty basic brown with dings, dents and scratches.  I painted it in an old white color, distressed it generously and sealed it with some wax.

Artichokes from my living room...I always chuckle as I attempt to stage my photos.  I use my iPhone to take pictures at any time of the day in poor lit areas and I basically grab a decor piece from my home and snap some pictures.  Ha!

Oh, well...I having fun and I need to be quick so I can load it up and
move on to the next piece.

Thanks Britt!

Bubble Gum

Our friend, Beth, from Not Too Shabby in the Gateway Mall is keeping us busy with fun projects...did you know she loves pink?  Well, she does and I was able to paint three different pink pieces for her this week.

Before

This child-size picnic table and benches were in tough shape...
a little sanding and paint made a huge difference.

After

Isn't this cute?

Two small benches and a fold down table in the
perfect shades of pick and white.

The sun was streaming in through the windows and
washing the colors out a bit...sorry.

Before

After

A fun little chair that would be perfect in a little girls room.
It is absolutely adorable.  I was attempting to stage this with some girly toys...not happening at my house.

Just a hint of distressing makes this piece perfect.

Before

Dark and boring.

After

Pretty in pink.
This is a great bench with storage or a toy box for your little girl.

All three pieces are available for purchase at Not Too Shabby in the Gateway Mall.  If you meet Beth, tell her that the GBG girls sent you.

Take a Seat!

Before

After
Yes, that is carpet you see on this bench....  after carefully removing quite a few staples, I was able to remove the carpet & place it in my garbage can where it belongs!

The bench got a fresh coat of paint (wish I could say the same for my deck ~ ick), and then some dark wax to achieve the old, weathered look!  Quite an improvement!

Spindle

Beth from Not Too Shabby in the Gateway Mall asked us to paint this bench/coffee table a pretty cream with lots of distressing...
it turned out amazing.

Before

After

Meet Maggie...
she is a 5 year old English springer spaniel and she is so sweet.

This could easily be used as a bench or coffee table.  It has the cutest spindles and spun legs.  It is heavily distressed and very unique.

Stop in at Not Too Shabby on Thursday and check it out.

Thanks for visiting.
