Love this paint (& the amazing color)

 

 

 

 

A wonderful friend of mine came across this piece (& another that will be painted soon) at a rummage sale a few weeks ago.  She tried calling me to ask if she should buy it for me, but of course, I never answer my phone.....  Thankfully, she bought it for me anyway, knowing that it was quite a beautiful, unique piece with LOTS of potential!!  Thanks again, Hannah!

 

This could've been any color of the rainbow & it would've turned out great!  I removed the back of it to get a nice couple coats of paint on it (& re-attached it when the piece was completed).  I painted it Annie Sloan Chalk Paint's Duck Egg Blue.  It was coated with clear wax & distressed to finish up.  I just love it.... I would like to keep it, but where to put all of the furniture???

 

If you like fun colors on furniture, check back often.  We put in an order for more paint yesterday & ordered a few colors that we haven't used yet.  We have quite a bit of furniture waiting to be painted & many of them being smaller, fun accent pieces which would look great with some funky colors!

Bookshelf in Orange

On Friday, I visited an old farmstead in search of a replacement mirror for an old vanity and ended up coming home with the pickup full of "treasures"...

and one of them found its home in Casey's room. 

I recently showed pictures from the room makeover that we did for 

our son Casey.  We had used a unique old bookshelf next to his bed...

it worked, but I was searching for a better one:)  

This is the original one.  

I bought this for $5.  

Ugly. Dirty. Gross. 

Soap. Water. Bleach. Paint.  

Perfect.  

The entire piece is painted Barcelona Orange, distressed and waxed.  I used scrapbook papers and Modge Podge on the back panel to add interest.  

Now Casey has the perfect spot for his "treasures."

We FINALLY found a dresser that Thomas approved of and started 

planning for a bedroom makeover.  He is quite picky and has lots of ideas of his own.  So, I "pinned" a number of ideas and we came up with a plan.

I painted the body of the dresser Old White and the drawers are 

Graphite and Antibes Green from Annie Sloan.  

It is lightly distressed...to keep the "modern" look my son was looking for.  

We sprayed the handles bright white.  

Yesterday we added a 5' piece of roofing metal...

its much cheaper than sheet metal ($15 for 10 feet).

Now he has a place to display artwork, pictures and awards. 

Looks good...and he LIKES it!  

The Bookshelf.  Before.  

I painted the bookshelf white and added a "quilt" of coordinating papers 

to the inside of it.  I simply cut squares of paper, put them in 

place randomly and covered the surface with Modge Podge 

(my third project this week that included it).

Love it!  I love the pop of orange that the lamp provides.  

I used scrapbook papers in gray, green and white patterns.  

Bedding.  Same as before, just added a pop of orange.  

We added the hanging book rack to store Lego magazines and other books.  I used tall, round garbage cans to store the immense number of Nerf guns. These also work great in the garage for hockey sticks, baseball bats and tennis rackets.   

Love this idea that I found on Pinterest...cheap, easy and cool.

After quite a bit of planning, I think the room came together perfectly.  

Thomas thinks it great...and that's what matters.

This piece was painted a soft green, distressed and waxed with dark and clear wax. The backs of the shelves are "quilted" with rose scrapbook paper and sealed with Modge Podge.  

I used 2" squares to create the patchwork.  

These knobs are MUCH better.  

This piece will be available for purchase at Not Too Shabby in the Gateway Mall on Thursday.  Stop in and take a peak...it's worth the stop.  

40" tall, 13.5" deep and 28" wide.  

Perfect for a little girls room.

Missouri River Flooding 2011

This summer we have spent countless hours trying to prevent the 

Missouri River from entering our home.  We built a massive dike, installed 

sump pumps on the inside of the dike and sand-point wells on the inside of the house to hold back the rising waters that surrounded our home for over 2 months.  All of our efforts have been successful and we won the battle.  

Since June 2nd we have been living in a camper at my sister-in-laws 

home and we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our home is dry, the dike is partially removed and the contractors are there to put the insides back together...we will move in next week!  

We are thankful for the numerous family, friends and volunteers 

that helped us through it all.  Thank you.  

With the main floor completely gutted of all the woodwork, doors and 

cabinets we thought we should freshen up the house and paint.  So we did!  

Sorry for the poor lighting...ugh, the iphone doesn't do the colors justice.  

With all the windows and light in the great room we went dark...

After completing the entire main floor with 2 coats of paint 

we moved upstairs and painted the boys' room.  

Casey picked Bamboo Shoot and 

Thomas chose Dapper Tan by Sherwin Williams.

With all my extra time (ha!) I decided to paint a 

few pieces of furniture...hey why not redecorate.   

This bookcase had been in Casey's room for years and 

was extremely outdated...I painted it Bamboo Shoot (to blend with the walls), distressed it and put some dark wax on it.  Much better. 

I purchased a duvet cover from Pottery Barn for the guest bedroom and thought the little side table that sits beside the bed needed a little update...painted white, distressed and waxed to look aged.  Love it.  

Next on my list...the headboard and footboards for the 

guest room and Thomas' room. Yeah!
