Lovely

before

Love this paint (& the amazing color)

A wonderful friend of mine came across this piece (& another that will be painted soon) at a rummage sale a few weeks ago.  She tried calling me to ask if she should buy it for me, but of course, I never answer my phone.....  Thankfully, she bought it for me anyway, knowing that it was quite a beautiful, unique piece with LOTS of potential!!  Thanks again, Hannah!

This could've been any color of the rainbow & it would've turned out great!  I removed the back of it to get a nice couple coats of paint on it (& re-attached it when the piece was completed).  I painted it Annie Sloan Chalk Paint's Duck Egg Blue.  It was coated with clear wax & distressed to finish up.  I just love it.... I would like to keep it, but where to put all of the furniture???

If you like fun colors on furniture, check back often.  We put in an order for more paint yesterday & ordered a few colors that we haven't used yet.  We have quite a bit of furniture waiting to be painted & many of them being smaller, fun accent pieces which would look great with some funky colors!

Thanks for looking,
Heather

It's All In The Details

This desk came to us from Kensal, ND.
Home of the Florhaug family.

While cleaning out the Grandma and Grandpa Florhaugs basement,
they found a few pieces for us to re-do...thank you.

This desk has a wonderful detail on the top, carved wooden
drawer pulls and the base has great curves. Love.

I decided to keep the top wood and paint the body.  The top was sanded down and treated it with some dark wax.  The base of the desk was painted Provence by ASCP.  I left the carved pulls as they were.  I think it is amazing.

Distressed...just a little.

Look at that sheen!

I even painted the backside. Those panels are great.

Here is a photo of the base with all those curves.

21" wide, 42" long and 30" tall.

Pumpkin Spice

before ~ dingy & dirty...

after ~ fresh & clean

light distressing on edges

lots of storage space for mittens, magazines, books, etc.

This storage bench was so cute to begin with but needed a little TLC!  The hardest part about re-doing this was getting the hinge off the back.... oh my....  whoever painted it before, did not take off the hinge (or the 30, yes, 30 screws which attached it) & instead, painted over the entire hinge & 30 screws.  It took me over an hour to get the hinge off!!

This bench was already snatched up by my husband's Aunt & she came up with the great color scheme!  She asked for ASCP Old White on the legs & ASCP's Barcelona Orange (muted a little with Old White) on the base.  The legs were coated in a white wax & the base in an antique dark wax.  It is ready for her entry way & is sure to get compliments!!

Thanks, Shelby!!

Still Not Sure...

I bought two of these wicker chairs off of Bisman...and I spent way too much on them.  The seller let me bring one home to see how it would work...I liked it, but I didn't love it.  My boys were CrAzY about it and wanted me to get both.  So I bought them...thinking, I'll make them work.  Ha!

Honestly, I had major buyers remorse.  Major.

First, the color was wrong.
I was planning on putting them in our great room, facing the kitchen.  The great room is full of brown...walls, couches, piano, table, recliner.

Second, the two chairs were a different color.
One seemed to have yellowed in the sun?

So...I stained them.  Brown.  I liked it better, not so yellowed.  But the darn stain stayed tacky even after I took some mineral spirits after it.  Then I did lacquer thinner and that helped.  A little.

They had an oily feel that I couldn't remove...
so I had a can of General Finishes wax in Pickle that the color had
settled to the bottom of the can.  So I used those chunks and gave the stupid chairs a coat of that.  I was certain they were going to end up in the trash.

Before and After.

Here they are today...
my mom recovered the burgundy cushions in a
nice green and brought them today.

So, I'm still not sure.

I like the white...I have been trying to add hints of it into my home.
This is a big hint.

Thoughts?

Thanks for reading.

Subtle Changes

This is a great upright, 5-drawer dresser and it was naturally distressed.
I love the color turquoise, but I thought this was a little bright.

I cleaned it up and added a bit more distressing.  Then I added some dark wax to give it a great patina and soften the color.  Perfect.

I love it.

Florhaug Furniture

I did a little trading with Mike's uncle, Roger.
He needed a base for a table and
he knows I am always looking for furniture to re-do.

I found the table base and sent it to his farm with my husband...and look at the treasures that were sent home with him!  Yeah.

Solid buffet.

Nice tall dresser.

Unique dresser with amazing detail on the top edge and feet.

Let us know if you are interested in any of these pieces.
We do custom painting upon request.

Thanks for visiting.

Fall Fun Day

The boys are off of school today and my husband is combining corn
with his uncle...so we are having a fall fun day.

It is 2:00 in the afternoon, the wind is blowing and a few sprinkles of rain are hitting the ground...soup is simmering and we are still in our pj's.  Perfect.

The fall decorations have been up for a few weeks, but today we added a few touches of Halloween.  Here are a few pictures the boys took.

Haunted house and spooky tree.

New bats from Lewes, Delaware hang from the chandelier.

Pumpkins.

Haunted house and a splash of orange.

Fall pillows.

Pumpkins in my old wagon that I adore.

Boo.

I have had this pumpkin person for years.

A friend from Luther Memorial Home in Mayville made these and sold tons of them to her co-workers.  It is still one of my favorite decorations to pull out.
I have great memories of LMH and the people there.

Anyway...Casey added a few pirate accessories this year.  Funny.

Grandpa Pete's spider.

My Grandparents old player piano is adorned with pumpkins and pictures.

Hey. Where you going?

This motion sensor skull was Grandpa Pete's and it still freaks us out!

We added a few masks, hats and wigs to our pumpkins.  Love it.

This is a tattoo...for a pumpkin.  Pretty neat.

I love fall pots.

Fall is in the air...and now it's a little spookier on Island Road.

Enjoy your day.
